Rare Earths Americas Expands Georgia Footprint, Targets U.S. Heavy Rare Earth Opportunity

Jul 29, 2026

2 minute read.

Highlights

  • Rare Earths Americas created the Foothills Rare Earths District in Georgia, combining five properties and expanding its land position to 18.5 times the original Shiloh footprint.
  • Surface sampling at Shiloh returned grades up to 44.5% total rare earth oxides, while Liberty Peak drilling found monazite-bearing sands over 50 kilometers away.
  • The district targets heavy rare earth elements dysprosium and terbium, which are essential for permanent magnets used in defense, EVs, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.
  • China currently dominates the midstream supply chain for these critical materials, making a confirmed U.S. district-scale source strategically significant.
  • Investors should monitor upcoming assay results, resource definition drilling, metallurgical studies, and permitting milestones before drawing conclusions about economic viability.

Rare Earths Americas (NYSE American: REA) has significantly expanded its exploration strategy in Georgia with the creation of the Foothills Rare Earths District, (opens in a new tab) transforming what was once a single-project story into a district-scale exploration play.

The new district combines the flagship Shiloh Project, the Liberty Peak property, and three additional high-priority exploration targets, increasing the company's land position to approximately 18.5 times the size of the original Shiloh footprint.

The announcement follows June surface sampling results from Shiloh that returned grades of up to 44.5% total rare earth oxides (TREO). Recent drilling at Liberty Peak has also identified monazite-bearing sands more than 50 kilometers from Shiloh, suggesting the mineralized system may extend across a much broader regional trend.

For investors, the strategic significance extends beyond exploration success. If confirmed through additional drilling and metallurgical work, the district could represent a future domestic source of heavy rare earth elements, particularly dysprosium and terbium—materials that remain overwhelmingly controlled by China's midstream supply chain and are essential for high-performance permanent magnets used in defense, electric vehicles, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.

Rare Earth Exchanges® notes that exploration success does not guarantee an economic resource. Investors should watch upcoming assay results, resource definition, metallurgy, and permitting progress closely. Nevertheless, the Foothills District materially expands REA's exploration potential and reinforces growing U.S. efforts to diversify strategic rare earth supply.
