Baogang Group and Inner Mongolia Power Deepen Ties for Green Energy and Rare Earth Innovation

Jul 8, 2025

Highlights

  • Baogang and Inner Mongolia Power Group meet to expand industrial cooperation in green energy and rare earth technologies
  • Companies aim to deepen collaboration on clean energy integration, industrial electrification, and technology co-development
  • Strategic meeting focuses on potential joint innovations in renewable energy, electric motors, and energy storage solutions

On July 4, 2025, Baogang Group General Manager Li Xiao met with Zhang Xiaohu, General Manager of Inner Mongolia Power Group, at Baogangโ€™s Information Tower in Baotou to discuss expanding their industrial cooperationโ€”especially in green energy, innovation, and rare earth-intensive sectors.

Li emphasized that Inner Mongolia Power Group has long been a key strategic partner of Baogang, which operates the worldโ€™s largest light rare earth mine at Bayan Obo. He called for deepened collaboration in areas such as clean energy integration, industrial electrification, and technology co-development, with a view toward enhancing both companiesโ€™ contributions to the regionโ€™s โ€œFive Major Tasksโ€ (a strategic development mandate from Beijing).

Zhang highlighted the synergistic relationship between the two giants, noting that the complementary strengths of Baogangโ€™s industrial backbone and Inner Mongolia Powerโ€™s energy infrastructure position them to pioneer new energy systemsโ€”from large-scale renewable grids to green manufacturing pathways.

Both parties committed to more robust information exchange, joint innovation platforms, and potential collaboration on rare earth-driven electrification technologies, including wind turbines, electric motors, and energy storage solutions.

Attendees included senior executives from both organizations, including Wang Lixin (Deputy GM, Inner Mongolia Power) and Liu Zhengang (Deputy GM, Baogang Group).

Implications

This meeting underscores a strategic convergence of power and rare earth interests in Chinaโ€™s Inner Mongoliaโ€”where Baogang is central to both mining and materials processing, and where clean energy inputs (wind, solar, and ultra-high voltage grids) are expanding rapidly.

  • Will this alliance lead to Baogang integrating vertically into rare earth-powered energy storage or motor production?
  • Is there a long-term plan to pair rare earth supply with dedicated renewable power sources, enhancing ESG compliance for global customers?
  • Could Baogang emerge as a rare earth-plus-energy platform to rival Western decarbonization supply chains?

REEx will monitor this evolving partnership as a potential model for industrial-energy integration in Chinaโ€™s critical mineral ecosystem.
