About Northeast Light Alloy Co.
Northeast Light Alloy Co., Ltd. (NELA) is a Chinese light-metals manufacturer headquartered in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, founded in 1952 as China’s first aluminium-magnesium alloy producer. A subsidiary of state-owned Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco), which holds roughly 85%, NELA manufactures aluminium, magnesium and aluminium-magnesium alloy products including plates, sheets, strips, foils, tubes, rods, profiles, wires, powders and forgings. Its light alloys — which can incorporate rare-earth additions such as scandium and yttrium to enhance strength and performance — serve aviation, aerospace, shipbuilding, defense, transportation, electronics and chemical industries, with exports to Japan, Korea, Europe and the Americas. Historically strategic, NELA supplied materials for China’s first aircraft, missile, satellite and large ocean vessel. As part of the Chinalco group, the company functions as a downstream processor of critical light metals and rare-earth-bearing alloys supporting China’s advanced manufacturing and defense supply chains.
