Highlights
- CREIA has announced the 2026 China Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Forum for September 10–11 in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, a key hub for rare earth separation and magnet manufacturing.
- The forum agenda covers domestic and international market conditions, high-performance magnet technology advances, new manufacturing processes, and industrial policy outlook.
- China's coordinated alignment of producers, researchers, and policymakers at this event underscores its strategy to maintain dominance in the permanent magnet value chain.
- Western businesses and governments should monitor the forum for early signals on production priorities, capacity expansion, and potential future policy or export control directions.
- Historically, major Chinese industry conferences have preceded announcements on industrial standards, investment initiatives, or strategic policy implementation in critical minerals.
The China Rare Earth Industry Association (CREIA) has released the second official notice for the Fourth Member Congress of the Third Magnetic Materials Branch and the 2026 China Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Forum, scheduled for September 10–11, 2026, in Baotou, Inner Mongolia. The event is more than an annual industry meeting. It will gather executives from China's rare earth producers, permanent magnet manufacturers, research institutes, universities, downstream industrial users, and government-affiliated organizations to discuss the future of China's permanent magnet industry during an increasingly competitive global environment.
Registration opens on September 9, with the conference hosted at Baotou Jiuyuan Mansion (Jiuyuan Hotel).
The Official Agenda Goes Beyond Networking
According to the notice, the forum is intended to implement national industrial policy, strengthen collaboration across China's rare earth magnetic materials supply chain, accelerate technological innovation, and promote the industry's high-quality development.
The published agenda includes presentations covering:
- Domestic and international rare earth market conditions
- Development of China's rare earth industry
- Progress in high-performance permanent magnet technology
- New production processes and manufacturing equipment
- Emerging applications for rare earth magnetic materials
- Industrial policy and market outlook
- Technical exchange among producers, researchers, and downstream manufacturers
Unlike many conference announcements, the association has publicly identified a broad technical program focused on both commercial markets and manufacturing technology.
Membership Meeting Includes Industry Governance
The notice also serves as the formal announcement for the association's member congress.
Members will review the branch's annual work report, discuss future priorities, and elect or confirm organizational matters relating to the Magnetic Materials Branch. Attendance is directed toward association members, major rare earth producers, magnet manufacturers, universities, research institutes, and relevant enterprises across China's permanent magnet value chain.
What Matters for Western Businesses
The document contains no new export controls, production quotas, pricing actions, or policy changes.
However, investors and manufacturers should not dismiss it as merely administrative.
China continues to organize its permanent magnet ecosystem through a coordinated industry framework that closely aligns manufacturers, researchers, and policymakers. Baotou remains the country's principal rare earth separation and magnet manufacturing center, making this one of the year's most important domestic industry gatherings.
For Western governments and companies attempting to diversify away from Chinese rare earth supply chains, the forum may provide valuable signals regarding:
- future production priorities,
- commercialization of new magnet technologies,
- manufacturing capacity expansion,
- downstream demand,
- and potential future policy direction.
Historically, major Chinese industry conferences have often preceded announcements concerning industrial standards, investment initiatives, or strategic policy implementation.
Bottom Line
Rare Earth Exchanges® assesses that the conference underscores China's continued effort to consolidate leadership across the rare earth permanent magnet value chain as global competition for critical minerals intensifies. While the notice itself contains no new policy initiatives, the speeches, technical sessions, and industry discussions in September could provide early insight into Beijing's priorities for production, technology, and supply chain development over the coming years.
Disclaimer: This notice was issued by the China Rare Earth Industry Association, an industry organization operating within China's state-guided industrial system. While the conference details appear administrative and credible, any strategic claims or policy implications emerging from the event should be independently verified through additional sources before being relied upon for business or investment decisions.
