About Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração
Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração (CBMM) is a privately held Brazilian mining and metallurgy company, founded in Araxá, with operations centered on the Barreiro carbonatite complex in Araxá, Minas Gerais. CBMM produces ferroniobium and specialty niobium products used in steel, batteries and advanced alloys.
Controlled by Brazil’s Moreira Salles family group alongside Asian strategic investors, CBMM began rare-earth research and development in 2011 and ran a pilot plant at Araxá. The company says its studies so far have not shown economic viability for rare-earth production at industrial scale.
