About Vimag Labs
Vimag Labs is a privately held electric-motion technology startup, based in Bengaluru, India, that addresses rare earth supply-chain risk by eliminating permanent magnets from electric motors rather than sourcing alternative rare earth materials. Its motors replace conventional neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) rare earth magnets with copper, silicon steel, proprietary power electronics and real-time control algorithms, generating magnetic fields dynamically through controlled electromagnetic energy. This software-defined approach targets EV, industrial and robotics applications dependent on neodymium-based magnets, reducing exposure to China’s dominance of rare earth processing. Backed by a US$5 million Series A funding round led by Accel, Vimag Labs is preparing production deployments across electric-vehicle and industrial segments, with ambitions to become a global motion-technology platform offering a magnet-free alternative within the critical minerals and electrification supply chain.
