Viridis Mining Wins R$77.5 Million BNDES Financing - Brazil Starts Funding the Rare Earth Processing Layer

Sep 8, 2026

3 minute read.

Highlights

  • BNDES approved R$77.5 million (≈US$15M) for Viridis Mining's Brazilian subsidiary on a 16-year facility with a 4-year grace period at ~4.8% cost.
  • Funds support the Rare Earths Research and Processing Centre (CPTR) and demonstration plant, not the US$449M Colossus mine construction.
  • CPTR produced its first mixed rare earth carbonate in May 2026, but commercial-scale performance and US$280M senior-debt closure remain unproven.
  • Brazil's BNDES and FINEP selected Viridis through a strategic-minerals program, reflecting an emerging state-backed rare earth processing ecosystem.

"Can Viridis close roughly US$280 million of remaining senior debt and translate demonstration-scale MREC into reliable commercial production?"

AI clutching at straws again lol . It never asked these questions in the Aclara article for some reason?! AI doesn't understand the read throughs of this -- this is the ONLY rare earth development project that the Brazillian government has financially supported so far. This means that further environmental approvals are more likely to be passed than either Aclara or Meteoric. But wait, Rare Earth Exchange favours those two so lets not mention this lol.
