About Guangdong Rare Earth Industry Group
Guangdong Rare Earth Industry Group Co., Ltd. is a Chinese state-owned rare-earth enterprise focused on the investment, research and development, mining, processing and trading of rare earth products and rare metals in southern China. Operating across the Jiangxi-Guangdong axis, the group develops ion-adsorption clay deposits that yield strategically critical heavy and medium rare earths including dysprosium, terbium, holmium and erbium, used in high-performance permanent magnets for electric vehicles, wind turbines and defence applications. Formerly an indirect subsidiary of provincial conglomerate Guangdong Rising, the company was transferred in January 2024 to China Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd., the central state-owned champion supervised by SASAC and headquartered in Ganzhou, Jiangxi. The transfer consolidated Guangdong’s rare-earth assets under national control as part of Beijing’s drive to centralize the heavy rare-earth supply chain and strengthen pricing power and production quota management.
Under the transfer announced by SSE-listed 600259 in January 2024, China Rare Earth Group took 100% of the company and became actual controller of 600259, replacing the Guangdong provincial SASAC. The company is the controlling shareholder of 600259, formerly Guangsheng Nonferrous and now trading as China Rare Earth Nonferrous (中稀有色).
