About Great Western Minerals Group
Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. (GWMG) was a Canadian rare-earth mining and metal-alloy company that, until its 2015 insolvency, was developing the high-grade Steenkampskraal monazite project in South Africa’s Western Cape and manufacturing rare-earth-based metal alloys through subsidiaries in the United States and United Kingdom. Formerly listed on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV:GWG) and OTCQX (GWMGF), the company held 100% of Rare Earth Extraction Co. Limited (Rareco), which controlled the former-producing Steenkampskraal mine and a planned rare-earth chloride and solvent-extraction separation plant targeting critical magnet elements neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium. Mineral resource estimates exceeded 70,000 tonnes of total rare earth oxides plus yttrium. Facing financing difficulties, GWMG filed an assignment in bankruptcy in December 2015 and was delisted; the Steenkampskraal asset subsequently passed to the Thorium/Steenkampskraal Holdings group.
Historical record: Great Western Minerals Group entered insolvency proceedings in 2015 and no longer operates. Its Hoidas Lake project is now held by REalloys.
