Overview

About Apple

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is a global technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California, and one of the world’s largest consumer electronics manufacturers. While not a miner, Apple is a major downstream consumer of rare earth elements, which power the permanent magnets used in iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple Watch components such as Taptic Engines, speakers and motors.

In July 2025, Apple announced a $500 million partnership with MP Materials to produce recycled rare earth magnets in the United States, enabling Apple to source 100% recycled rare earth magnets domestically. Under the agreement, MP Materials will supply magnets from its Fort Worth, Texas facility using recycled feedstock processed at Mountain Pass, California, with deliveries beginning in 2027 to support hundreds of millions of Apple devices. Apple has pioneered rare earth recycling through its Daisy disassembly robot and uses recycled neodymium magnets across its product line, reducing reliance on newly mined rare earths and strengthening domestic supply chains.
