About China Southern Rare Earth Group
China Southern Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd. is a state-owned rare-earth mining and processing company headquartered in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, China, established in 2015 and now the principal operating arm of central enterprise China Rare Earth Group. As a vertically integrated pure-play producer, it focuses on medium and heavy rare earths, particularly dysprosium and terbium, extracted from southern China’s ion-adsorption clay deposits, and integrates raw-ore mining, smelting and separation, comprehensive recycling, intensive processing and technical services across roughly three mining companies, four separation firms, five application companies and a trading unit. The group accounts for a dominant share of China’s heavy rare-earth output, the elements most critical to high-temperature NdFeB permanent magnets used in EV motors, wind turbines and defense systems. A notable development is its incorporation into China Rare Earth Group’s national consolidation strengthening state control over heavy rare-earth supply.
China Southern Rare Earth Group is not a standalone state group. Its former parent, Ganzhou Rare Earth Group, contributed its rare earth assets to China Rare Earth Group at CREG’s formation in December 2021, and CREG’s listed arm still listed China Southern as a related party under the same actual controller in 2024.
