About ElementUSA
ElementUSA is a privately held U.S. critical-minerals and rare-earth development company pursuing an unconventional strategy of recovering rare-earth elements and other critical materials from industrial waste streams rather than developing new mines. Its flagship asset is access to more than 30 million tons of bauxite residue, or red mud, at the Atalco alumina refinery in Gramercy, Louisiana, which the company believes contains economically recoverable rare earths, gallium, scandium, yttrium, germanium, dysprosium and iron products. In December 2025 ElementUSA announced an $850 million investment decision to build a rare-earth and critical-minerals refining facility in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, with initial production targeted for 2028. The company, working with the Colorado School of Mines, secured $67 million in U.S. Department of Energy funding, and projects its resource could supply a substantial share of U.S. demand for several strategic critical minerals.
