About Hyundai Motor Group
Hyundai Motor Group is a South Korean multinational automotive conglomerate headquartered in Seoul, with its flagship Hyundai Motor Company listed on the Korea Exchange (KRX: 005380). Together with affiliate Kia, the group is a major downstream consumer of rare earth permanent magnets, which power the traction motors in its growing electric and hybrid vehicle lineup, including the IONIQ series built on the E-GMP platform.
Amid China’s tightening of rare earth and magnet export controls, Hyundai has pursued supply-chain diversification and stockpiling to insulate EV production, securing neodymium-praseodymium offtake from Australia’s Arafura Nolans project and engaging U.S. magnet suppliers such as MP Materials. The group is anchoring North American manufacturing through its multibillion-dollar Georgia Metaplant, reinforcing access to the rare earth elements neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium used in electrified mobility.
