About Nissan Motor Co.
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TSE: 7201) is a Japanese multinational automaker headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, and a major consumer of rare-earth permanent magnets used in the traction motors of its electrified vehicles. Within the critical-minerals supply chain, Nissan is notable for reducing and recycling rare earths: since 2010 it has cut heavy rare-earth content such as dysprosium in motor magnets, and its ARIYA EV uses a magnet design minimizing heavy rare earths. With Waseda University, Nissan developed a pyrometallurgical recycling process that recovers up to 98% of neodymium and other rare-earth compounds from end-of-life motor magnets while halving processing time. Through its LEAF, ARIYA and e-POWER lineups, Nissan’s electrification strategy makes it a significant downstream demand driver and circular-economy innovator for neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium.
