About Star Group Industrial Co., Ltd
Star Group Industrial Co., Ltd (성림첨단산업(주)) is a privately held South Korean rare-earth permanent magnet manufacturer headquartered in Daegu, South Korea. Founded in 1994, it specializes in NdFeB (neodymium-iron-boron) permanent magnets used in EV traction motors, voice coil motors, computer disk drives and industrial motors, placing it in the downstream magnet-making segment of the rare-earth supply chain. The company describes itself as the only producer of rare-earth magnets in South Korea. It makes sintered magnets at its Hyeonpung plant in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, and plates magnets at its Yeongcheon plant in North Gyeongsang Province. It also has a subsidiary plant in Shangqiu, China, and its website lists a Vietnam plant in North Chu Lai Industrial Park, Quang Nam, and a Vietnam subsidiary, SGI VINA, set up in 2022. It holds patents in heavy-rare-earth powder manufacturing and uniform grain-boundary diffusion technology, and has supplied Hyundai Motor Group for over a decade. In 2023 POSCO International and Star Group were reported to be planning a joint U.S. magnet plant; no evidence was found that the venture was formed.
