About The Metals Company
TMC the metals company Inc. is a Vancouver, Canada-based deep-sea critical-minerals explorer listed on the Nasdaq (TMC). Founded in 2011, the company aims to recover polymetallic nodules rich in nickel, cobalt, copper and manganese from the seabed of the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ) in the Pacific Ocean, at depths of roughly 4,000-6,000 meters. Through subsidiaries and sponsoring-state arrangements with Nauru, Tonga and Kiribati, TMC holds exploration rights to approximately 224,500 square kilometers of the CCZ. With strategic partner Allseas, its NORI subsidiary collected over 3,000 tonnes of nodules during pilot trials in NORI Area D, reaching sustained production rates exceeding 86 tonnes per hour. TMC positions the nodules as feedstock for EV battery cathodes, copper cathode and manganese alloys. In 2025-2026 the company pursued a U.S. commercial-recovery permitting pathway under NOAA, drawing significant regulatory and environmental attention.
