About NLC India Limited
NLC India Limited (NSE: NLCINDIA; BSE: 513683), formerly Neyveli Lignite Corporation, is a Navratna state-owned enterprise headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, under India’s Ministry of Coal. Primarily a lignite and coal miner and thermal/renewable power generator, NLC operates lignite capacity of about 28 MTPA in Tamil Nadu and 30 MTPA in Rajasthan plus roughly 6,800 MW of installed generation. Within the critical-minerals space, NLC India is studying the recovery of rare earth elements and other strategic trace minerals from secondary resources such as lignite ash and overburden; its Chairman serves on a NITI Aayog committee examining critical-mineral recovery from secondary sources. As of mid-2026 the company held a market capitalization near INR 44,700 crore (about US$5.3 billion). NLC’s REE initiative positions the lignite major as a potential domestic supplier of rare earths recovered from coal-mining byproducts, supporting India’s critical-minerals self-reliance goals.
