3 minute read.

Highlights

  • Baogang Group sustained full production across steel and rare earth operations during the eight-day national holiday.
  • The company achieved higher output through:
    • Intelligent manufacturing
    • Advanced automation
    • Integrated logistics
  • Continuous production signals China's strategic push to meet 2025 industrial and GDP targets despite slowing real estate demand.

While most of China took time off for the National Day and Mid-Autumn “Double Festival,” Baogang Group, one of China’s largest state-owned steel and rare earth conglomerates, kept its furnaces burning—literally. According to Baogang Daily (opens in a new tab), the Inner Mongolia-based industrial giant ran at full production during the eight-day holiday period, achieving higher output and stronger efficiency while maintaining momentum toward its aggressive fourth-quarter targets.

Steel and Rare Earths at Full Throttle

The report highlights impressive performance across Baogang’s dual engines—steelmaking and rare earth production. At its flagship Rare Earth Steel Plate Plant, hot steel billets moved continuously through automated rolling mills while unmanned cranes zipped overhead in fully digitalized operations. This “intelligent manufacturing” push, featuring advanced automation and data integration, is credited with boosting both quality and efficiency.

Elsewhere, Baogang’s thin-plate mill continued pushing technical boundaries in both ultra-thin and ultra-thick steel production, seeking new breakthroughs beyond prior records. The company’s steel pipe and rail beam divisions maintained steady production throughout the holiday, signaling the start of what Baogang calls its “decisive sprint” for the final quarter of 2025.

Rare Earth Operations Stay the Course

In the rare earth segment—central to China’s global supply dominance—Baogang reported continuous operations across multiple subsidiaries, including Huamei, Hefa Rare Earth, Gansu Rare Earth, and Baotou Magnetic Materials. These units reportedly fine-tuned metallurgical parameters in real time to ensure stable output of separated oxides, lanthanum–cerium products, and rare earth alloys. The company emphasized strict quality control from raw material sourcing to finished product logistics.

Logistics in Overdrive

Supporting this industrial tempo, Baogang’s logistics subsidiaries kept rail and truck traffic humming. The company shipped 16.8 million kilograms (16.8 kt) of finished steel via 2,964 rail cars. It moved 440,000 tons of raw materials through coordinated rail–road operations managed by Tiejie Logistics and Baogang Steel Union Logistics.

Why It Matters

Baogang’s sustained high production during a national holiday underscores Beijing’s push to meet 2025 industrial and GDP targets amid slowing real estate demand. For the West, it signals that China’s rare earth and specialty steel sectors remain firmly mobilized, integrating AI-driven manufacturing and logistics that could extend its lead in critical material processing.
