About Singapore
USGS lists no rare-earth production or reserves for Singapore. Its part in the supply chain is commercial. The trade ministry describes the city-state as a hub for trading critical minerals in Asia, where global companies set up trading operations to use its trade finance and shipping services.
Rare-earth companies use it the same way. Lindian Resources, the Perth-based developer of the Kangankunde project in Malawi, has set up a Singapore office for international sales, marketing and logistics. When China's Shenghe Resources agreed to take over Peak Rare Earths, the agreement was transferred to its wholly owned Singapore subsidiary.
On the demand side, Singapore's manufacturers mostly import intermediate or finished goods that contain rare earths rather than the raw material. The ministry names semiconductors, AI, medical technology, and batteries and energy storage among the industries that use products containing critical minerals. Battery recycler Green Li-ion, headquartered in Singapore, works in the adjacent lithium-ion chain.
The open question is whether Singapore's role stops at trade and finance. The government says it would welcome industry interest in rare-earth projects, but any plant would have to meet the Radiation Protection Act, which governs how radioactive waste is managed.
