About Caremag

Caremag SAS is a French rare-earth recycling and refining company and a subsidiary of Lyon-based processing specialist Carester SAS, building a plant in Lacq, southern France. Carester said in March 2025 that Caremag had secured 216 million euros in financing, including 110 million euros in equity and shareholder debt from JOGMEC and Iwatani Corporation (via their joint company, Japan France Rare Earth Company) and 106 million euros of French state support, and that start-up was planned for late 2026. According to Carester, the plant will recycle 2,000 metric tons of end-of-life magnets and refine 5,000 metric tons of mining concentrates a year, producing about 600 metric tons of dysprosium and terbium oxides and about 800 metric tons of neodymium and praseodymium oxides. The Japanese investment came with a long-term agreement to supply heavy rare-earth oxides produced by Caremag to Japan. Carester signed a rare-earth supply contract with Stellantis in September 2024. The European Commission named the Caremag project a Strategic Project under the Critical Raw Materials Act.
