About Saskatchewan Research Council
The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) is a provincially owned research and technology organisation based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and operator of the first commercial-scale rare earth processing facility in North America. Funded by the Government of Saskatchewan and the Government of Canada, SRC’s Rare Earth Processing Facility separates rare earth oxides and produces rare earth metals using in-house developed, automated solvent extraction and metal smelting technology. The facility reached commercial production of neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) metals in 2024 at purities above 99.5 percent, scaling toward approximately 400 tonnes of NdPr metal per year, enough to support hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles. SRC offers tolling services converting individual rare earth oxides into metals for international clients, establishing a strategic non-Chinese midstream link in the Western rare earth supply chain and anchoring Canada’s domestic rare earth value chain.
