About Shin-Etsu Chemical
Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. is a Japanese chemicals and advanced-materials company headquartered in Tokyo and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE: 4063). Founded in 1926, Shin-Etsu makes PVC and semiconductor silicon wafers and manufactures rare-earth permanent magnets. Through its Magnetic Materials Division and Shin-Etsu Rare-Earth operations, the company produces neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) and samarium-cobalt magnets using rare-earth elements including neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium, supplying electric-vehicle motors, wind turbines, hard-disk drives and industrial systems. Shin-Etsu has separated rare earths at its Takefu plant in Fukui Prefecture since the 1960s. In June 2026 a company spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg that it plans a new domestic rare-earth refinery, its third plant in Fukui Prefecture; the company gave no scale, cost or timeline.
