About Solvay
Solvay SA is a Belgian chemicals and advanced materials company headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, where its registered seat is at Rue de Ransbeek 310. Listed on Euronext Brussels and Paris under ticker SOLB, Solvay processes and separates rare earths rather than mining them. Its La Rochelle plant in France, established in 1948, has the capacity to process the full range of rare-earth elements at industrial scale, including neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium; Solvay describes it as one of the largest rare earths separation plants outside China. In April 2025 Solvay inaugurated a production line for permanent-magnet rare earths at La Rochelle, and in July 2026 it approved €15-20 million of additional investment to expand separation capacity there. Solvay said in July 2026 that it will begin industrial-scale separation of dysprosium and terbium at La Rochelle in autumn 2026. In June 2026 Solvay signed a letter of intent with Viridis Mining and Minerals to source Brazilian rare-earth feedstock for La Rochelle, strengthening a European supply chain serving EV, renewable-energy and defense markets.
