About Phoenix Tailings
Phoenix Tailings is a U.S. clean-mining and rare-earth metals company headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts, founded in 2019 by a team of MIT scientists. The company economically extracts and refines rare-earth elements and other critical minerals from mining waste, tailings and recycled feedstock using a proprietary process that combines solvent-based recovery with molten-salt electrolysis to produce rare-earth metals with zero direct carbon emissions and no reliance on Chinese inputs or technology. In October 2025 Phoenix Tailings opened a rare-earth metallization facility in Exeter, New Hampshire — among the largest of its kind in the Western world — with initial capacity of 200 tonnes per year of neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) and dysprosium-iron (DyFe) alloy and a pathway to more than 1,000 tonnes annually. The company has received state and federal funding, including grants to extract critical minerals from wastewater, strengthening domestic magnet supply chains.
