About China Rare Earth Group
China Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd. is a central state-owned enterprise headquartered in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, China, established on December 23, 2021 and directly supervised by SASAC. The group was created by consolidating the rare-earth assets of China Minmetals, Chinalco (Aluminum Corporation of China) and Ganzhou Rare Earth Group, with technology partners, and controls roughly 60-70% of China’s heavy rare-earth output. As a vertically integrated pure-play rare-earth producer, it focuses on medium and heavy rare earths, especially dysprosium and terbium, extracted from southern China’s ion-adsorption clay deposits, and spans mining, smelting and separation, recycling, deep processing and R&D. Its principal operating arm is China Southern Rare Earth Group, alongside Guangdong Rare Earth Industry Group. A notable development is the group’s expanding national role in stabilizing prices and securing supply of the critical heavy rare earths essential to high-performance permanent magnets.
A 2024 disclosure by its listed arm, China Rare Earth Resources and Technology (SZSE 000831), gives CREG’s registered address as 16 Zhangjiang Road, Ganzhou, and names its shareholders as SASAC, which is controlling shareholder and actual controller, Chinalco, Ganzhou Industrial Investment Holding Group, China Minmetals Corporation Limited, China Iron & Steel Research Technology Group and GRINM. Press reports at formation put SASAC at 31.21%, Chinalco, Minmetals and the Ganzhou holder at 20.33% each, and the two research groups at 3.90% each.
