About Carester
Carester SAS is a privately held French rare-earth processing and engineering company headquartered in Lyon, France, founded in 2019 by chemical engineer Frederic Carencotte. Carester says its team brings more than 250 years of combined industrial experience drawn from Rhone-Poulenc, Rhodia and Solvay operations in France and China. Carester specializes in rare-earth separation, refining and recycling technology and consulting. Its flagship venture is its subsidiary Caremag, which is building a 216 million euro recycling and refining plant in Lacq, southern France, financed with French government and Japanese (JOGMEC and Iwatani) backing; Carester said in March 2025 that start-up was planned for late 2026. Carester focuses on producing heavy rare earths such as dysprosium and terbium plus neodymium and praseodymium from recycled magnets and mined concentrates. In March 2024 Carester and Solvay signed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic partnership. On July 22, 2026, InfraVia CMF Invest and USA Rare Earth signed a Share Purchase and Investment Agreement for minority stakes in Carester, under which USA Rare Earth would hold about 13.6% and Solvay’s Rhodia Opérations would exit Carester’s capital; USA Rare Earth’s filings still describe the deal as pending.
